Plans for the Thriller Opening.

Our ideas for a Thriller Opening is that we don't want to give to much away in the opening or have a death that is shown as this relates to much to a horror.

We haven't decided which idea we prefer. Ones a action thriller and one is more psychological thriller.

Idea one: This is more of an action thriller. But it starts off with a dark setting and a person hiding. The person hiding is looking through a small gap, outside the dark setting is people saying where is she. The person hiding is heavy breathing. Then flicks back into the past, and it starts to tell the story. The Camera starts off with a dark setting with the close up of the main characters face, with them looking out of a tiny hole from where the character is hiding. The camera then focuses on the action outside where people come into a room, where there is dialogue asking where she is, the camera could have a long shot as the character is looking through the hole. The camera could be fast paced as it relates to the action. The music could be fast paced as well to match up with the action. The Editing wouldn't include any dissolves or anything as sharp cutting would be more effective. but this could possibly tell the story too much in the time that we have but this is what the opening sequence would be based on.




Idea two: It starts with a police station and an interview room and you see two girls getting interviewed about a death, then you have flash backs of the girls all getting ready for a night out and then, them walking down the street in a busy town area. You then see two of the girls looking for the other one who has gone missing. The use of camera in the opening sequence could start off slow in the police station as the character are talking, could use a mid-shot. it could flick back a forth to which character was talking or to the group of girls so it shows the emotion. When they are talking about what happening in the flashback the camera goes into a hand held mode, as this is evidence at the police station. When the girls are in the busy town it then goes back to a steady camera and its fast paced towards the girls and then it goes black and the opening credits start. but it could be difficult to make a police station set and we would probly not be allowed access to a actual police station.

another idea would be to base the filming on one of the two ideas above but not to actually tell a story but instead just hint at whats going on by just using filming and sound which may make the opening sequences e.g in the butterfly effect there is no conversation until about 2.30minutes in and also in vertigo there is no speech until about 2.45 into the film. The story is not normally told at all there is always an element of mystery to the story that the audience either has to think about and work out or watch on more to find out. I think this would be a good way to tell one of these stories because the sound can tell a lot from filming, you don't even need dialogue which just makes what is going on so obvious like ''where is she'' we could show with filming and sound that her friends are looking for her which would make the opening sequence more interesting.


Idea Four
Another idea could be a girl who has flashbacks all the time, because she nearly drowned. She sees into the past to try and change things as an effect. As a child she has bad experiences for example, her dad leaves, her mum gets a horrible boyfriend and hes abusive towards the mum. Her brother gets into a lot of trouble with drugs and gangs. She helps others to sort their problems out by going back into the past and changing events. This then makes her life and others perfect but then she comes through different consequences. In the opening sequence you will see her on a hospital with blood and then you see a flashback of her in the car when it has crashed. The screen goes black and then the title of the film comes out of her mouth whilst shes screaming.
