Evaluation Questions

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In this thriller coursework, we became more involved in how the film industry works with all the production logos making it look more realistic to the audience. and our understanding of the programs that we used has grown, so we are able to make the thriller look more professional

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Our thriller doesn't really have any social groups in the opening sequence.

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

I think this could be used in cinemas, as it quiet a strong story line that could become a great thriller. The Eye with Jessica Alba was in the cinema and that became a good thriller film and it was based on the eye that she was blind and had a eye transplant, our idea is similar in the way that its about sound and things start to go wrong when she gets her hearing back. It could just be released on DVD as The Eye has a similar story line and the audience may find it boring.

4. Who would be the audience for your media product?

We have decided the a certificate 15 would suit our thriller opening because it may involve strong language which may be quiet frequent. But a certificate 12 could be considered as we don't have to use strong language and violence could be moderate

5. How did you attract/address your audience?

The audience would be a wide range from 12 to older adults. The opening sequence leaves lots of questions to draw the audience in as they want to know the answers to the questions.

6. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing the product?

I have learnt how to use final cut alot more and understand how upload footage from the cameras, and understand how to edit the footage we have uploaded, I understand what tools to use on final cut, to cut the footage and delete the footage we don't need. We have also used affects that speed up and slow down the footage to make it look more effective.

I have learnt how to use garage band, i know how to put the sounds together to make a soundtrack. i dont have a wide range of understanding of this, and need to learn more on how to change the tempo of the music.

We used Photoshop to create our production logo, which is called 'Stella Productions' Stella means star in spanish. In the Photoshop, i learnt that they have to have different layers, to make the picture work. i know how to cut it to make it fit in the frame and make the text work with the picture.

Children of a Lesser God

This film has hearing impaired people in, we wanted to see how they represented hearing impaired people, because our opening thriller sequence is to do with deafness.

25th February 2010

In todays lesson we went through all the footage which we have so far. We drew a simple story board, which we are going to use this weekend whilst filming in Cambridge and this will help us decide the sequence order of the opening. Last lesson we uploaded all the footage we had of the woods and the hospital scene, which we then looked at and cut.
We still need to:
  • Edit the footage from the woods
  • Film more shots in Cambridge
  • Produce a final storyboard with pictures
  • Edit all the footage together
  • Make a soundtrack
  • Do the opening credits and add this and the production logo into the sequence.
  • Upload still photos

extras,

We are using many different props for our Thriller opening sequence. One of our main props is a bed, we needed a hospital looking bed, at college we have a health and social department which has a hospital like bed, which they let us use. As filming in a hospital would be impossible.

Our costume for our actor will include, a white top, which will be used in the hospital part of the opening

Our Roles

As a group we all have different roles, but we all help each other.

Heather: Editor/Camerawoman
Shaina: Director
Chloe:Actor/Producer
Sarah: Makeup Artist/Camerawoman

We all help each other as we go along but we have specific parts.

Lesson 23/2/10

We are uploading more footage that we might use for our final opening thriller sequence. We are making sure we have loads of footage to use, so we have a lot to work with which will make, making the thriller opening a lot easier.

We don't really have any test footage, we are just making sure we have lots of footage to edit and perfect.

We need to make sure we do a completed story board and upload it to the blog, also to keep adding posts to the blogs and keep on top of the planning and research.

development of our idea

1. black screen and silence for about 3 second

2.black screen and a heart beat for 5 seconds

3.setting the scene, a long shot of addenbrookes to show she is in a hospital and some credits on the objects such as a lorry driving past

4.black screen with a heart beat again 5 seconds

5. point of view someone blinking, either by using letter box tool on imovie or using something infront of the camera to give the eye blinking effect, or if this is too difficult we will film the eye opening and then go to the persons point of view.

6.as the eyes opening we get a buzz of noise, which is not clear, and the vision i snot blurred, which looks like she is laying in a hospital bed.

7. going back to the heartbeat with black screen for a few seconds

8.a shot of her face, fragmentated such as show her eye then her nose then show her damaged ear and zoom out on the radio something playing that reminds her of on the swing singing, which sends her to a flash back.
9.flash back in black and white and possibly put it in slow motion as well to show that it is a flash back, and film in the woods show the swings

10. panicking running through a woods but the music still being heard on the radio.

11. go back to the radio rather than her singing and then she sits up in the bed in shock and comes really close to the camera.

we are going to put the credits into our shots because we think this is very different and looks very good and gives us more chance to show more shots.

2 swings flashback possibly, one in the woods and one in a modern park

we have got permission to use the health and social bed which is like a hospital bed for our filming.

initial idea

we have an idea that we are going to have diegetic credits and the story is going to be about a girl who has an accident and damages her hearing after the surgery to fix it she begins to experience strange things. we think that at the begining she could hear the first sentence for the first time in a year and what she hears takes her back to a point where she couldnt hear but this time she hears everything and finds out. when she flashes back to the future she isnt herself she is just watching over her life. And when she goes back to present time she reveals what she knows and nobody understands how she knows it and everyone thinks shes mental because the bad things she reveals other people deny.

1. she comes out of hospital and cant hear for a year
2.a year later she has surgery to fix it
3. she has a black out and she goes back to a time when she couldnt hear but she can hear what people are saying now
4. she finds out that her husband is cheating on her because he is on the phone to his girlfriend and she hears what he is saying and he was taking advantage on the fact she was deaf.
5. throughout the film she has flash backs to what people were saying when she was deaf and finds out that her life when she was deaf was all fake.

This i s our idea for the whole film so we are not going to show much of it in the opening sequence, we also realise that some of the shots and things could be hard to do with the doctor and the hospital it would be hard to construct this and we doubt we would be allowed access so we think we are going to leave what happened a mystery to also make the opening sequence more effective.

aThe opening sequence as she is laying in bed at home she has a flash back where she can hear what is going on and finds out that her husband is cheating on her, this is from her point of view but she is watching herself then she comes back to reality and has a sound overload where there is loads of voice overs and maybe some sounds of the crash and a heartbeat sound which carrys on when all other sounds stop then slowly fades out. Then from her point of view the bandage is being taken off that goes around her face and covers her eyes and ears we will film this from her point of view so the sound will become clearer and the vision will become focused then it is her husband that took it of. we name this the sentence. we think we could film through a bandage at first so that it is clear that we are filming from her point of view and show what she is seeing and hearing.
