Alfred Hitchcock Essay "What thriller thrive" 1936

The audience wants to feel involved in the Thriller but not enough to feel threatened. They want to feel the tension and suspense, with out anything actually happening. The audience can leave the cinema with assurance and safety. At the end of the film it is always resolved, so the audience can relax. One quote from the essay is 'A thriller must be wholehearted-the more exciting the better. And that is why the authentic thriller will live and thrive and the horror film will die' this is basically saying that the thriller is and will be more popular.
